Reasons to keep a healthy weight

There is a lot of talk about how many of the population in the Great Britain,  Western Europe and  the United States of America are grossly overweight. This is true and some of  the blame for this may be in relation to a lot of us doing less exercise  and eating high sugar and high fat  foods that become addictive: the more of them we eat the more we want to eat them.

We need to take ourselves in hand and resolve to eat less if not cut out completely these sorts of food and decide it’s the right time to exercise on a regular basis and eat food as much as possible in it’s unadulterated state.

Why should you be bothered to keep your weight within a healthy range?

Here are five reasons why you should do that.

  1. To reduce the risk of heart disease

It is said that being overweight increases your chance of having high blood pressure, strokes and heart attacks. Of course some people who are unlucky enough to suffer any of these conditions are not overweight: however you reduce your chances by having a healthy weight.

2. To reduce the risk of diabetes

Similarly diabetes, especially the mature onset type of diabetes, may be more common in people who weigh more.  Adjust your diet and weight now to prevent this condition which itself can lead to a greater chance of developing other medical  complications.

3. To keep yourself fitter

It’s more difficult to be agile when you are overweight and movement and exercise is important to keep your body in the best shape.  Overweight and exercise are interconnected: when you weigh a lot it’s more difficult to exercise, yet when you take more exercise  then you  lose  excess weight more easily.

4. To have a greater choice in what to wear

Everyone wants to look good whatever your style and there is a greater choice of clothes  when you are no longer overweight.

5. To live longer

If  you are within a healthy weight range then you are less likely to develop some of the conditions listed already. Not being ill means a greater chance for a longer and healthier life. Of course no-one can predict how long each of us will live but however long that might be it’s preferable if you can be as healthy and in good shape for as long as possible.
